This coming Sunday, February 2, the Seattle Seahawks will be taking on the Denver Broncos in the 48th Super Bowl. To honor this special time of year we have decided to commemorate by showcasing several Bowl- themed Bar and Bat Mitzvahs!

Bowl 2014 pic 2 At the beginning of 2013, a young man named Michael came to us with the hopes of throwing a football-themed Bar Mitzvah. Michael played football in a local rec-league and wanted to incorporate his love for the game into his special day. And so there was, the MichaelBowl! There were countless little details that helped to bring this theme full circle such as scoreboard signage, jersey-themed centerpieces, ticket-inspired place cards, and more. The teen centerpieces were hand painted foam board cut-outs of player’s jerseys and sports logos including Ray Rice’s jersey alongside the Maryland Terrapins turtle. However, Michael’s favorite NFL team was the New England Patriots so we made sure to include Tom Brady and Randy Moss’ jerseys too.

The day of Michael’s Bat Mitzvah also happened to coincide with the Preakness. We incorporated that element by featuring sunflowers, daisies and red roses for the adult table centerpieces, created by the same florist that beautifies the actual Preakness festivities, Flowers & Fancies. Table names were “Section Numbers” to reflect on the stadium theme. The pièce de résistance of this whole affair just had to be the teen bar! For this party accent, we had our workshop create a plywood tailgate that was painted to resemble the back of a pickup truck. The truck bed held the coolers, glassware and old-fashioned root beer bottles for the interactive Teen Bar.

It would be wrong of us to talk about the the Super Bowl this year without remembering our own Baltimore Raven’s Super Bowl victory of 2013! We had the honor of planning a Raven’s inspired Bat Mitzvah for a young lady named Jamie at the infamous M&T Bank Stadium. The centerpieces we created played off of the Raven’s purple and gold colors. The centerpieces began with tall glass trumpet vases filled with lit purple gel that were wrapped with a purple feather boa twist. We topped those with a display featuring Jamie’s party logo set among a bed of purple, white, and gold decorative elements including an authentic mini Ravens helmet, family photos and feminine touches. The linen, provided by Table Toppers, added a feminine touch of lavender ruffles.

The custom signs that we brought to the JamieBowl helped the space to mimic the feel of a prime-time NFL game. We placed an inflatable, purple-lit archway by the dance floor, branded with “JAMIEBOWL” in big purple letters. As guests walked through that archway and towards the food stations, they found descriptions of each station detailed on Jamie-themed football fields. After leaving the food area, guests could then wander over to the drink station deemed “Jamie’s Superbar”.  With all the fun decorative and personal accents, everyone was a winner at JamieBowl!

This last bowl-themed party that we designed was for a young man who had a passion for both lacrosse and football. This sport-inspired Bar Mitzvah was deemed, the Brittbowl! Guests were greeted by our “Will Call” booth which held the place card tickets for the guests.  The tickets sported blue and white printing detailing the “Stadium Rules” and the guests seating “section”. We placed Britt’s locker room complete with metal lockers next to the place card table for guests to leave their autograph for Britt. To decorate the ballroom, we started with navy blue linens on all the guest tables paired with silver chiavari chairs and red napkins. Centerpieces for the adult tables were an elegant combination of ginger, gerber daisies, hypericum berry, roses, silver ting ting, and greens. Teen centerpieces were similar to what we did for the MichaelBowl with the  hand-painted jersey cutouts along with pennants and a school ogo. In the ballroom behind the centerpieces, we hung a huge forty foot long by twenty foot high backdrop of a football field that we up-lit to give the room the same feel of an NFL game.  The look and feel of this party incorporated highlights of game-day fun and was an easy touchdown!
